If ever there was evidence of the need for STEM, it was a recent article reporting on the lack of females taking the AP computer science test. Our young women are stepping back in middle school, bowing to peer pressure, masking their intelligence and hiding their curiosity. This makes the programming offered by organizations such as YWCA Atlanta’s Teen Girls in Technology and the many programs of WIT (Women in Technology) more critical than ever. We must provide our young women with accessible, innovative opportunities to build their skills in science, technology, engineering and math and help open doors for them to have careers in these fields. Our workforce’s future depends on it.
