Technology, Through Well-Defined Hotel Solutions Strategy & Organization, Drives Group Revenue

The Client:

With over 710,000 rooms and 4,800 hotels across nearly 100 countries, our client is a global player in the hospitality service industry; representing 12 brands across Europe, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Greater China.

The Challenge:

With technology as one of the key revenue drivers, the executive leadership of Global Technology (GT) was looking to create the Global Hotel Solutions Team (GHS) in support of the newly formed Property Products and Systems (PPS) team within Global Sales and Marketing. GT wanted to define GHS’ strategy and structure within the larger Technology organization to ensure alignment. Our team was asked to help create a clear strategic position for GHS, map the product scope, prioritize key initiatives, and define the organizational structure. In addition, a funding model was needed for both PPS and GHS’ new structures to obtain executive approval.

The Strategy:

A Jabian team of strategic planning experts partnered with the GHS executive leader, team, and Business stakeholders to:

  • Assess the current state and define the organizational Mission, Vision, and Strategy for the newly formed Global Hotel Solutions (GHS) team, using Jabian’s Strategic Planning Framework,
  • Design the team’s new organizational structure based on strategic capability needs to support key projects as well as business-as-usual execution,
  • Prepare a cost estimate inclusive of FTE, travel, licensing, overhead, and other requirements,
  • Join with Business leadership to prepare a phased approach for deploying the new GHS Technology team and incrementally enable new capabilities.

Phased Maturity & Funding Model

The Outcome:

Because of our efforts, the Global Hotel Solutions team was defined and a clear strategy was set forward. Along with the creation of the new organizational structure and proposed phased deployment, a joint Business-Technology funding request was put together and presented to the Business and Technology leadership team.
